Uniformed Public Services First Certificate
The course is a great introduction to public services. It is a mixture of outdoor activities work and classroom work. It will give you knowledge and experience that you will find useful in everyday life as well as if you choose to join a service.
What will I do?
- learn about adventurous activities and teamwork for the public services
- learn skills that are essential for public service personnel
- get fit enough to join your chosen service
What will I study?
Unit 2 - Public Service Skills
- communication, team-working and personal effectiveness skills
Unit 3 - Uniformed Public Service Fitness
- how your fitness compares with that needed to join one of the services
Unit 6 - Adventurous activities and Teamwork for Public Services
- mountain biking, rock climbing, camping, problem solving and teamwork
How will I be assessed?
- All units are coursework based. There are no exams.
What do I need?
- outdoor equipment including a rucksack, walking boots, a sleeping bag and wet weather clothing
- the course uniform: polo shirts and at least one pair of black combat trousers, jacket and a pair of black trainers or boots
- you may be asked for a contribution to the cost of residential and outdoor activities along with transport costs
- you will also be expected to come prepared to lessons with pen and paper as well as a folder for your work.
What then?
- further study – progress to First Diploma
- employment – in uniformed public service or sport industry
Where can it take me?
- College – Level 3 Public Services course
- Employment – entry to one of the uniformed public services
Anything else?
- We can’t guarantee that you will get into a service but we can provide you with an interesting and enjoyable course full of useful information.
- There will be a chance of doing a First Aid qualification or other elective courses
