Enrichment and Recreational Activities
College life is about so much more than just studying!
As a student, you can use your time, and our facilities, to explore new interests, enhance your wellbeing and develop your employability skills!
- Sports and Fitness activities
- College trips
- Clubs and Societies
- Student Union
- Volunteering and Community
Activities and events take place both during and after your college timetable.
Animal Cafe takes place in Starbucks and is a fantastic opportunity for staff and students to go along in their breaks and interact with creatures from the Animal Care Department.
Interacting with animals has been proven to have a calming and relaxing effect, so the cafe aims to improve wellbeing. It is also a chance for staff and students to meet our Multi-faith College Chaplain who can offer personal and spiritual support to those of all faiths and none, in both routine and crisis times of life.
We provide people with the chance to challenge what they know, develop their public speaking skills and meet other students. Get involved and have your say.
Furnace Radio Station
Halesowen College’s exciting student radio station, Furnace Radio, was re-launched in November 2015. The studio features brand new industry standard equipment, allowing students to get a taste of what it is like to work in radio.
Open to all students, it is supported by partners in the local media and offers a fantastic opportunity to learn presentation and production skills and run your own radio show.
Each faculty runs trips and visits to develop skills and provide enjoyable and fulfilling experiences for students.
In recent years, these have included fieldwork visits for Geology students, court visits for Law students, trips to Disney Land for ICT students, trips to Germany for Sports students and cruises and airline visits for Travel and Tourism students.
Health and Fitness Activities
The Fitness Suite is open for all students when not required for curriculum use. A student timetable is set out with sessions each day of the week. Students can access professional inductions and training advice from the supervising personal trainer.
Recreational sports sessions are offered on Tuesdays and Fridays for all students. Activities vary at different times of the year but regularly include badminton, table tennis and basketball. These take place in the Sports Hall.
Creative Writing Club
Have you ever thought about writing a novel? Fancy yourself as a poet? Enjoy writing lyrics? Do you have a story in you? Then why not join our club?
Whatever your experience, whatever you’re good at or want to gain experience in, we are always looking for volunteers. Getting involved through a variety of roles offers great opportunities to learn new skills, gain recognised qualifications, enhance your personal and professional development and improve your CV.
It’s also a great way to meet new people, help others enjoy sport and support local clubs which are pivotal to the community.
Got a free period? Stuck with what to do at lunch time? Why not take a walk around our fantastic Fitness Trail to clear your mind and keep fit.
Just follow the red line path around the perimeter of the College grounds and take a breath of fresh air.
Student Council/Student Union
As a student at Halesowen College your voice counts!
The Student Council, made up of democratically assigned union members, meet once a month to discuss issues that matter to you, the student.
The Students’ Union is dedicated to ensuring that all students have the best possible college experience and work to ensure the student voice is heard. We work alongside all members of the College community to support the work of charities and promote the interests of students.
Join our “Love Halesowen/Hate Litter” Campaign!
At Halesowen College we believe that understanding and managing the impact of our actions on people and the environment is an essential part of being an ethical and socially responsible community.
