Why study this course?
Many adults looking to progress, academically or professionally, are now required to have a Level 2 qualification in English, and Functional Skills are widely recognised by employers and institutions as a suitable alternative to the GCSE. In fact, employers were involved in the design of the reformed Functional Skills in order to address gaps in skills and knowledge needed for the workplace.
We provide a course that is flexible and suits the demands of adult learners seeking to improve their English skills: for their own personal development, for employment reasons or to progress into further/higher education.
Please note, this course is delivered via Microsoft Teams, which means you must have access to an appropriate electronic device e.g. laptop, desktop or tablet with access to a microphone and webcam, a strong internet connection, and the Microsoft Teams app. Writing materials and an exercise book/folder will also be needed.
Course content
In English you will be externally assessed in the form of a written exam that comprises of a reading and writing paper. In addition to this you will also complete two speaking and listening tasks that are internally assessed. The exam is scheduled for the last week in June.
A Level 2 qualification in English will provide opportunity to study most level 3 programmes.
Functional Skills qualifications are recognised by most employers as a relevant English qualification.
