Why study this course?

Functional Skills Entry level qualifications in mathematics provide reliable evidence of a learner’s achievements in maths against content that is relevant to the workplace. The qualifications assess learners’ underpinning maths knowledge and their ability to apply mathematical knowledge to different contexts. They provide a foundation for progression to employment and further education, and they help learners to develop skills for everyday life.

Course content

Entry level 1:

  • Using numbers and the number system – working with whole numbers
  • Using common measures, shape and space
  • Handling information and data

 Entry level 2 and 3:

  • Using numbers and the number system – working with whole numbers, fraction and decimals
  • Using common measures, shape and space
  • Handling information and data

There will be up to three chances to sit an examination over the duration of the course. Entry to examinations will be made at tutors’ discretion on the basis of ongoing assessment of skills and performance on mock examinations.

Entry requirements

No formal entry requirements. Learners will take an initial assessment in mathematics to assess their suitability for the Entry level maths courses and the most appropriate level of study.

Materials

You will need a pen, an A4 sized lined notepad and a folder to keep your work in.
