Why study this course?

Many adults looking to progress, academically or professionally, are now required to have a Level 2/GCSE qualification in maths. To pass this qualification learners are required to attain a Grade 4 or above, therefore meeting the minimum required standard for employability.

Course content

The course will follow the Pearson (Edexcel) specification for GCSE Mathematics (9-1).

The course will be taught one session per week.  Classes are available during the daytime and evening, at various times throughout the week.

Regular assessments will take place to help you track your progress.

The course will be assessed via a single examination in Summer 2024. This comprises three papers, each 90 minutes long – Paper 1 which is a non-calculator assessment; and Paper 2 and 3 in which calculator use is allowed.

Examinations will take place at our Whittingham Road campus. As these examinations are externally set, we cannot be flexible regarding the date or time. You may need to attend college for your exam on a day and time that is different to your usual lesson time. Exam dates will be communicated to you at the start of the course.

It is assumed that students will need to carry out a minimum of 2 hours independent study each week.

Entry requirements

You must hold a GCSE Maths qualification at Grade D/3, or a Functional Skills Maths qualification at Level 1.

Other applications will be considered on an individual basis following an initial skills assessment.

Suitability for this course will be assessed via an initial skills assessment.

Dependent on this assessment it may be that decided the GCSE course is not suitable, in which case an alternative course will be offered where possible.

The diagnostic test is taken prior to the start of the course and takes about 1 hour.

You must be 19+ to apply for this course.
