Why study this course?
Many adults looking to progress, academically or professionally, are now required to have a Level 2 qualification in maths and Functional Skills are widely recognised by employers and institutions as a suitable alternative to the GCSE. In fact, employers were involved in the design of the reformed Functional Skills in order to address gaps in skills and knowledge needed for the workplace.
We offer classes to suit learners at entry, level 1 and level 2 to achieve a maths qualification that is appropriate for them.
We offer three points of entry in the academic year to help us provide a course that is flexible and suits the demands of adult learners seeking to improve their maths personally, for employment or to progress into further/higher education.
The course is a 12-week programme with 11 teaching weeks and an exam opportunity on the 12th week for those learners identified as being ready for formal assessment.
Please note, this course is delivered at Brierley Hill Neighbourhood Learning Centre.
In maths you will be externally assessed in the form of a written exam that comprises of a non-calculator and calculator paper in one sitting.
A level 2 qualification in maths will provide opportunity to study most level 3 programmes.
Functional Skills are recognised by most employers as a relevant maths qualification.
All learners will carry out an initial assessment that will determine the level they start at. Learners will ideally achieve a minimum of Entry Level 2.
You will need to bring a pen, pencil and paper to each lesson.
