Why study this course?

If you are interested in becoming a Teaching Assistant in a school and do not have any experience in this role previously, then this course is for you.    

This qualification will prepare you for further learning and training, while developing an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a school setting. You will also learn how to support the wellbeing of a child or young person and their development.  

This qualification is aimed at a range of learners who are thinking of working in a school setting including: young people, mature learners, learners with special educational needs or where English is an additional language. 

Learners can progress onto the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning.

Course content

This course consists of 4 units, 1 mandatory and 3 optional.  

Optional units:  

  • Establishing Safe Personal Boundaries in a Learning Environment 
  • Recognising Abuse in a Learning Environment 
  • Investigating Cyberbullying in a Learning Environment 

A range of evidence such as posters, designing a leaflet or booklet, charts, or written assignments will be used to cover the criteria.  All are internally marked which means no exam at the end!! 

Entry requirements

There are no official entry requirements for this course just a desire to commence the journey to becoming a Teaching Assistant.  

Materials

A pen, paper, lever arch folder and enthusiasm!  

The use of, or access to, a laptop/computer/tablet is required to be able to complete aspects of the course.
