Graphic Communication A Level
About this course
This course looks at communication in its purest form. The designer has a responsibility to make information easily available and understandable through skill, knowledge and wit.
Good visual communication is at the heart of a civilised society. This course will give you the necessary skills and understanding to create great design.
Throughout the course you will cover disciplines such as typography, digital design, photography, traditional illustration and animation.
You will discover where your individual talents lie when communicating visually, then work towards a specialism with one to one expert guidance.
At the end of the two years you will have created a body of work that reflects your skills in the field of Graphic Communication.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is throughout the course, as each component is completed.
Two units in the second year create your A Level grade and will include an externally set exam.
What do I need?
You will need to achieve at least 5 GCSEs with 2 at Grade B/6 and 3 at Grade C/4.
Additional Requirements: Grade 5 in an Art & Design subject, or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design may be accepted with a strong portfolio.

- University - related degree, such as Multimedia, Graphics/Illustration and Visual Communications
This course involves going out and taking photographs, mostly done as homework. There will be location visits as a group throughout the year.
The College can provide cameras but having your own camera, or access to one, could be useful.
Graphic Communication combines well with Photography, Art & Design, Media Studies, Film Studies, Textiles, English Language and/or Literature and ICT.
