Photography Level 3


About this course

This vocational Photography course will give you an excellent impression of how photography might suit you as a career.

Instruction on camera techniques will be given, inspired by some great photographers studied during coursework.

Thorough instruction with post production techniques using Photoshop will be given, as well as how to use a DSLR on location and in the studio.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to visualise photographs, and how to use the camera to achieve your aims.

There will be location visits and studio lighting techniques explored.

You will become skilled with digital post production techniques as well as film based ‘wet’ photography.

On completion of the course you will have a portfolio of photographs to be proud of and feel confident with a camera in your hand.

This course focuses on the skills needed to become a professional.

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed as each unit is completed.

There are three units during the first year, followed by three more specialist units in the second.

What do I need?

You will need to achieve at least 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including English Language.

Where can it take me?

  • Halesowen College - a range of HNC/D, Foundation Degrees and professional qualifications, including Photography HND
  • University - related degree, such as Photography, or combined with Video, Multimedia & Graphic Design

Additional Information

The course involves going out and taking photographs; this will be done mostly as homework. There will be location visits as a group during the year.

The College can provide cameras, but having your own camera or access to one could be useful.

This course should be combined with A Levels. Good combinations include Media and English Language.
