About this course
This is a practical course that covers a wide range of topics such as Economics, Accounts, Law, Marketing, Business Ethics and Human Resources. You will study and examine major businesses such as McDonalds, Amazon, Coca-Cola, Apple, Tesco and other businesses you will be familiar with.
Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to take part in a number of visits, to help with your knowledge and understanding of business concepts. You will be visiting businesses such as Manchester United, Alton Towers, Trafford Centre, Jaguar Land Rover, Birmingham Christmas Markets and the Electric Cinema.
What will I learn?
During the course you will study a wide range of topics such as Finance, Economics and Marketing etc., for example, the Marketing units will help you to understand how products are promoted and the different marketing methods involved when launching a product.
To further enhance your employability skills there will be opportunities for you to complete a one week work placement.
This compulsory aspect of the course gives you the chance to apply the knowledge gained in class to the real world of work.
How will I be assessed?
The course is made up of a number of different units and is assessed through a combination of internal assessments (course work set and marked by your lecturer) and external assessments (set and marked by the exam board).
Assessments can include real-world tasks, tests, research projects, essays and presentations.
What do I need?
You will need to achieve at least 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including English.
Where can it take me?
- Halesowen College - Business HNC/D or a range of higher level professional qualifications such as those offered by the Association of Accounting Technicians
- University - related degree, such as Business Management, Accounting, Marketing, International Business and Business Banking and Finance
