About this course

Have you considered what makes a customer buy one brand over another? What are the internal and external challenges that Marketers have to deal with?

This course will develop your understanding on how a business uses a variety of methods to analyse its customers and make important strategic decisions to ensure its survival and growth. Marketing is not just about selling products. It reaches every part of the Business in order to understand what the customer actually wants and then to answer that need.

This is a practical work-related course which also includes a wide range of topics such as Economics, Accounts, Law, Business Ethics and Human Resources. You will examine major businesses such as McDonalds, Amazon, Manchester United, Oxfam, Apple, Tesco and other businesses you will be familiar with.

Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to take part in a number of visits, to help with your knowledge and understanding of Business concepts. You will be visiting businesses including Manchester United and Alton Towers.

What will I learn?

During your course you will study units such as Creative Product Promotion, Market Research and Internet Marketing to develop your knowledge of key issues within Marketing.

Units with an economics focus, such as The Business Environment, International Business and Business, Markets and the Economy, will develop your understanding of the external factors that can affect all businesses.

The Marketing Units will help you to understand how products are promoted and the different marketing methods involved when launching a product. In the second year of your course you will have the opportunity to attend sessions to develop your employability skills, these sessions are run by KPMG and Sainsbury's.

In addition, Barclays Bank runs a session on Personal Finance which will help you to manage your own money.

How will I be assessed?

All units are internally assessed by completing assignments.

What do I need?

General Requirements

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade A*-C including English and Maths at grade 4 (grade C)

In certain circumstances we will accept variations to this entry guide and create a personalised programme.
