About this course

This qualification has been developed to focus on providing education and training for a range of careers in computing. It provides you with an opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised Level 5 vocational specific qualification.

It will develop your knowledge, understanding and skills in the field of computing and provide you with the opportunity to focus on the development of higher level skills in a computing context.

The aim of the programme is to support individuals employed, or hoping to enter employment, in the computing industry. It will develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attributes essential for successful performance in working life and should enable learners to make an immediate contribution to employment.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through coursework, which consists of assignments and 2 projects. The assignments include reports, documentation and practical tasks.

What do I need?

112 UCAS points

  • Level 3 vocational qualification in a relevant subject; or
  • 2 or more A Levels with one in a related subject; or
  • Have previously achieved an HNC in Computing

This profile should be supported by GCSE grades A* to C (or 4) in Maths and English Language.

Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector.

Where can it take me?

Following successful completion of the HND in Computing, those wishing to continue their studies can use this qualification to progress to a full honours degree, in a Computing based subject, at many universities.

There are a wide variety of employment opportunities in the Computing and IT industries.
