Art A Level

A team of practicing arts professionals will work closely with you to develop the creative skills you will need to pursue a career in Art and Design. Through one-to-one teaching and support, we will help you gain confidence in your creative training, as well as opening new opportunities to develop your critical knowledge of contemporary and historical art practice.

Your skills will be nurtured through a range of practical hands-on projects that will allow you to explore a broad approach to Fine Art making.

How will I be assessed?

Your final grade is awarded through a combination of coursework (60% of your grade) and an externally set assignment (40% of your grade).

What do I need?

You will need GCSEs with 2 grade 6s and 3 grade 5s including an Art and Design subject. A Level 2 Art qualificaton and portfolio may also be considered. Retaking GCSE English Language and Maths as part of your programme is required if you do not have grade 4s.

Where can it take me?

You can progress to an exciting range of higher-level courses including Graphics HNC, or a Creative Apprenticeship. Other options include the BTEC Foundation Degree in Art and Design, HND Art & Design or a related degree in a subject such as Fine Art, Art & Design, Illustration, Textiles, Fashion, Architecture and Teaching.

Additional information

Art A Level combines well with English Literature, Graphic Communication, History, Photography & Textiles. This course is ideal if you have an interest in a career as a Product Designer, Fashion Designer, Illustrator, Teacher, Architect, Games Designer or Community Projects Leader.
