The A Level Dance course teaches students how contemporary Dance has evolved over recent decades. Students will look at the developments that have taken place in Britain’s leading dance company, Rambert Dance Company, through the study of a range of choreographer’s work and more recent changes in Dance, through the study of other companies including Mathew Bourne’s New Adventures and Shobana Jeyasingh’s Dance Company.
Practical work provides the opportunity to create solo dances in response to a particular stimulus as well as learning to dance with others in works choreographed by/for you. This is an exciting, creative course which will challenge students in many ways whilst preparing them for either university study or the world of work.
External practical and theory exams.
You will need to achieve at least 5 GCSEs – 2 at Grade 6 and 3 at Grade 5 including English and Dance if possible. A Dance audition will also be required.
Students will have the opportunity to perform at College Dance shows throughout the year. Trips to see professional dance works are also arranged. Practical lessons will require suitable Dance clothes.
