Learning Support - Foundation Degree - Full time

Location: Halesowen College

Duration: Full Time – 2 Years (2 days in College/2 days in an educational establishment, either paid or voluntary)

  • A Level 5 qualification that supports the development of a personal approach to practice by furthering an understanding of education
  • Personal/professional development, theory & practice and work-based enquiry are interwoven to support academic and professional development
  • This course enables you to have the opportunity to work at the same time as studying either full time or part time and put what you learn into practice
  • Provides a suitable basis for progression to further academic study or professional qualifications

The course modules are designed to give you the necessary expertise and knowledge to confidently tackle problems in a range of working environments and to put your studies to use in the real world.

How will I be assessed?

You will engage in a range of learning and assessment styles and be encouraged to become effective and independent in researching and presenting work. Work based assignments will enable you to engage with your own practice and to share knowledge and expertise with others through activities such as group work and presentations.

In the second year of the course you will undertake a work-based study, which will allow you, with individual tutorial support, to focus on a particular area of interest within your professional practice.

What do I need?

24 UCAS Points

  • Current/recent experience of working with learners for a minimum of 2 years and employed within an appropriate educational setting in a paid or voluntary capacity
  • This profile should be supported by GCSE Grade 4 or above in Maths and English
  • A Disclosure and Barring Service check is required for this course, plus an occupational health check

Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector.

Where can it take me?

Those who wish to continue their studies can use this qualification to progress on to a full honours top up degree such as Integrated Working with Children & Families through the University of Worcester or Professional Practice through University of Newman (both delivered at Halesowen College).

Recent graduates have gone on to further study in various fields including Primary Teaching and Adult Lecturing.

The Foundation Degree in Early Years is ideal if you are considering a career in the Childcare & Early Years Care and Education sectors or voluntary and private organisations.
