Part-Time

About this course

This course is suitable for adults already working in Primary or Secondary schools assisting teaching staff on a paid or voluntary basis and who do not have a relevant qualification but wish to update their knowledge and skills. It allows you to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in schools.

What will I learn?

There are nine mandatory and two optional units to complete which include children and young people’s development, the requirements of safeguarding, the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion plus supporting children and young people during play and leisure. Optional units are dependent on your placement experience.

How will I be assessed?

Throughout the course you attend a 2-hour weekly taught class along with attending a school placement for 9 hours a week.

During the course you will build a portfolio of evidence.

This is made up of a combination of work from your weekly taught class and visits from your assessor.

Your allocated assessor will visit you in your placement on a regular basis carrying out direct observations on your practical abilities.
