Hair & Beauty Skills Level 2
About this course
This Hair & Beauty Skills course will help you to gain the techniques and knowledge to prepare you for progression to the next level of vocational learning.
It will also ensure that you have the skills required to create a ‘total look’.
To further enhance your employability skills there will be opportunities for you to complete a one week work placement.
This compulsory aspect of the course gives you the chance to apply the knowledge gained in class to the real world of work.
What will I learn?
You will choose either a Hair pathway or a Beauty pathway and study a range of units:
- Basic Skincare
- Basic Photographic Make Up
- Basic Manicure
- Basic Pedicure
- Blow-Drying & Finishing Hair
- Basic Winding Techniques
- Shampooing & Treating the Hair
- Basic Plaiting & Twisting Hair
- Colour Using Semi-Permanent Colour
You will also have the opportunity to learn core skills on Health & Safety, Client and Customer Skills, Promoting and Selling Products and Services, Creating a Retail Display Area and Preparing for a Job Interview.
How will I be assessed?
- One practical assessment for each unit and a portfolio of evidence of practical skills
- Questioning and tasks including creating a mood board, poster, leaflet or fact sheet
What do I need?
You will need to achieve at least 4 GCSEs at Grade D/3 or above with a Grade 3 in English and Maths.
Where can it take me?
Halesowen College - other Level 2 vocational qualifications in Hair & Beauty
You will have the opportunity to participate in a number of enrichment activities including visits to industry shows, talk to guest speakers and engage with local employers.
Our industry specialists will support the development of skills and demonstrate additional workshops to develop employability. Examples of additional workshops are nail art, tanning, hair up.
A kit and uniform is required.
