About this course

A course designed to provide knowledge of how to apply acrylic nail enhancements, it consists of theoretical aspects and application of manicure (care of nails, cuticles and hands) nail extensions (extending nails using acrylic methods) and nail art (applying paint, foil striping tape and more).

Theory will include anatomy and physiology of hand and arm and Health and Safety. Candidates will have to complete workbooks and assignments at home as well as in class which includes research.

They will gain practical competence by working on each other and the general public in a commercial salon environment.

  • UV20483 Follow health and safety practice in the salon
  • UV20399 Provide and maintain nail enhancement
  • UV20453 Client care and communication in beauty related-industries
  • UV20470 Provide manicure treatments

Including one optional unit

  • UV20472 Provide Nail Art

How will I be assessed?

  • Practical observation/assessment
  • Workbooks and Assignments (which may involve research) at home
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Test papers

What do I need?

Candidates must have an interest in care of the hands and nails. If candidates have previously studied introduction courses, these do not give credits towards this course.

If candidates have already achieved one subject of the course previously (i.e. VTCT manicure) they must show evidence of this by showing Certification.

Prerequisite includes a Level 1 certificate in nail treatments or beauty therapy or a successful interview and trade test.

Where can it take me?

Part-time or full-time NVQ Level 2 covers all of the basic beauty therapy treatments. Some of these units can also be accessed via part time routes, including facial and skin care, waxing and eyelash and brow treatments.

There will be no course cost (£0.00) if you are:

  • Aged 16-18 years
  • Aged 19+ and in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance (wider benefits in some circumstances)
  • Aged 19+ and earning less than £15,736.50
