The Foundation Degree in Learning Support supports the development of a personal approach to practice by furthering an understanding of education.  With theory, practice and work-based learning, students develop academically, personally and professionally.

The course modules are designed to give you the necessary expertise and knowledge to confidently tackle problems in a range of working environments and to put your studies to use in the real world.

Progression routes are available on completion of the FdA Learning Support course and include:

  1. BA Education Studies top up degree
  2. BA Integrated Working with Children and Families top up degree
  3. BA Primary Initial Teacher Education (QTS)

Delivery

Part time course

  • Students attend College one evening per week and participate in a range of activities, including lectures, workshops, seminars, tutorials, group work, presentations, and practical activities.
  • Students allocated Personal Academic Tutor to support transition to studying higher education, and offer information, advice and guidance.
  • Students are encouraged to use a range of resources, including books and journals from the Learning Resource Centre on Campus, as well as online learning materials. 
  • Course resources are provided using Blackboard, a Virtual Learning Centre (VLE)

Assessment

You will engage in a range of learning and assessment styles and be encouraged to become effective and independent in researching and presenting work. Work based assignments will enable you to engage with your own practice and to share knowledge and expertise with others through activities such as group work and presentations.

In the third year of the course you will undertake a work-based study, which will allow you, with individual tutorial support, to focus on a particular area of interest within your professional practice.

Example modes of assessments include: written assignments, presentations, case studies, reflective portfolio entries, problem based learning, reflective journals, seminars, independent studies, workplace investigations, self-evaluation/needs analysis, evaluations, literature critiques.

Experience working with learners (minimum of two years)

Enhanced DBS check through University of Worcester

Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector.

Any other information an applicant would need to know at this initial stage?

Minimum of two years’ work experience with learners.

One-day placement per week at an educational establishment. This could be where you are employed.

Additional costs to consider may include purchasing resources relating to reading research.

For students on the Foundation Degree in Learning Support, apply to University of Worcester for the BA (Hons) Integrated Working with Children and Families top-up, and you will be guaranteed an offer of place or interview.
