The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Esports has been developed to meet this upcoming demand for skills in esports. The qualifications include a breadth of transferable skills that enable learners to experience different areas of esports to aid their progression to employment, directly or via further study. Esports offers a unique opportunity to study a sector that crosses over multiple subject areas such as sport, marketing, enterprise, IT and the creatives. It provides an opportunity to develop skills vital to further progression within esports in both an educational and professional setting, cover topics such as teams and tournament setups, establishing and organisation and event management as well as promoting positive health within esports.

The qualification is aimed at learners who want to progress towards the level 3 in esports, or who may aspire to work within the sector. The qualification is endorsed by the British Esports Association as being suitable for learners who want to work in the industry. This means that it will be recognised by employers and will support entry into the industry in a range of roles.

This course entails extensive case study hours.  This will need to be completed within and outside of timetabled hours.  Time must be planned for this at home or in work placement for successful completion of the course. As part of this study programme you will also be required to participate in work experience and enrichment.  

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed through:

  • Practical observation
  • Portfolio evidence of assessment
  • Case study work 
  • Evidence of underpinning knowledge.  

What do I need?

You will need to have achieved at least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 and above, including English and Maths. It is a requirement, however, that you retake GCSE English and Maths as part of your programme, if you do not have Grade 4. This will ensure you can progress to a Level 3 course or apprenticeship, and will improve your future employment prospects.

The primary focus of the Pearson BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Esports is to progress to employment across a range of roles within esports, or to a level 3 qualification including Esports. Popular career choices include:
