Why study this course?
This course is suitable for adults already working in Primary, special or Secondary schools assisting teaching staff on a paid or voluntary basis and who do not have a relevant qualification but wish to update their knowledge and skills. It allows you to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting, teaching and learning in schools.
Please note, this course is delivered at Dudley Wood Neighbourhood Centre.
Course content
There are 11 units to complete which include:
During the course you will attend college or one of our community sites where you will build a portfolio of evidence which will consist of your assignments, reflective accounts and observations.
During the course you will be visited at your placement regularly by a qualified, experienced assessor who will observe your practical competency.
All units are internally assessed with no exam at the end. You must complete all assignments and your practical hours of 300 hours before completion.
Entry requirements
Literacy skills at Functional Skills level 1 or above and ideally maths as well.
You must have secured a placement in a school of your choice to carry out your placement for 9 hours a week and ideally have been volunteering prior to enrolling. You will need to be in Year 1 upwards to cover this qualification, supporting children in maths, English and ICT within the learning environment.
An understanding of the basic verbs such as describe, explain and identify.
