The UAL Diploma and Extended Diploma in Art and Design Creative Practice, offers you exciting and stimulating opportunities to develop practical skills, and the ability to think creatively and imaginatively within different areas of Art & Design in preparation for a career in the creative industries. Through experimentation with 2D and 3D Fine Art, Graphic Design, Textiles and 3D Design Craft, you will gain an understanding of the distinct characteristics of different Art & Design disciplines before making choices about the creative pathway that you wish to pursue. This is a studio based and practical course that encourages you to take risks, think creatively and explore the possibilities of Art & Design in the 21st Century.

You will be expected to complete a work experience placement in either Year 1 or Year 2. 

How will I be assessed?

In Year 1 -Internally assessed and internally verified portfolio of evidence (Units 1, 2) and assignment (Unit 3), which are subject to quality assurance by UAL Awarding, which is graded by the centre and externally moderated by UAL Awarding Body.

In Year 2, you will develop a personal body of work/portfolio that allows for individual expression and ownership (Units 1, 2, 4, 5) this is Internally assessed and internally verified. The culmination of this individual research and development is a substantial final project that is exhibited in the end of year exhibition. This final major project is internally assessed and externally moderated by the UAL awarding body.

What do I need?

You will need to have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 and above, including English and an art-based subject. You will need to provide a portfolio of work that demonstrates passion, commitment and energy.

Retaking GCSE Maths as part of your programme is required if you do not have Grade 4.

Where can it take me?

You could progress to a range of higher level courses, including Foundation Diploma in Art & Design and Creative Media Production HNC/D. You can also study a range of degrees at university, including Fine Art, Visual Communication, Set and Costume Design, Architecture and Product Design.
