This course will allow you to gain the knowledge and experience required to work with children, from birth to 5 years old. It is an interesting and diverse course that enables you to study a variety of subjects, some of which include: Child Development, Safeguarding, Supporting Children with Additional Needs, Observation, Assessment & Planning and How to Support Emergent Literacy & Mathematics in the Early Years.
The course combines College and work placement, and you will be encouraged to implement your new knowledge into your practice in an Early Years setting. Throughout the course you will have support from the Placement Officers Team.
A clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required.
The course is assessed through a combination of internally set assignments and 2 externally assessed, controlled assessments (1 per year).
The practical element of the course will be monitored and assessed by the Early Years Assessor and your Personal Coach.
You will need to achieve a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English.
Retaking GCSE Maths as part of your programme is required if you do not have Grade 4.
You can progress to an exciting range of higher level courses, including Foundation Degrees in Early Years or Learning Support, and degrees in Primary Teaching or Social Work.
AN APPRENTICESHIP COULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED.
This course is ideal if you are interested in a career as an Early Years Practitioner or Teaching Assistant, Child Minder, Social Work Assistant, Play Worker or Children’s Holiday Rep – working with children aged 0-5years.
