Please note, this course information is for September 2021 entry.
The new admissions cycle for September 2022 entry will open in October 2021, and we recommend you check back for updates to course information.

This course includes the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants alongside a BTEC Certificate in Animal Care which focuses on theory and practical skills for this industry.

During this introductory Dog Grooming course, you will undertake both theory and practical based lessons giving you knowledge and understanding to assist a professional dog groomer within a salon.

Subjects you will study during the course will include preparing and grooming dogs, bathing and drying of dogs, basic trimming of a dog’s coat, maintaining cleanliness and biosecurity and introduction to anatomical features, breed characteristics and behaviour of dogs.

Attendance to a work placement within a dog grooming salon is highly encouraged to enhance further skills and learning. Students are required to purchase a Dog Grooming tunic, which is to be worn during practical work. Further details of this will be given at enrolment. Proof of tetanus vaccination is required.

Due to the structure of this course, students will need to be well organised, motivated and maintain good attendance throughout.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through a combination of a synoptic MCQ knowledge test, Awarding Body synoptic assignment and College based assignments and practical assessments.

What do I need?

You will need to have achieved at least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 and above, including English and Maths. It is a requirement, however, that you retake GCSE English and Maths as part of your programme, if you do not have Grade 4. This will ensure you can progress to a Level 3 course or apprenticeship, and will improve your future employment prospects.

Where can it take me?

You can progress to a Level 3 Dog Grooming or Level 3 Animal Management qualification.

You could consider a junior position working as a Dog Grooming Assistant within a grooming salon, or other canine based establishments.
