Football Academy - Level 2

Are you interested in a career in the Sport & Leisure Industry, or perhaps wish to study and improve your academic ability alongside football skills? This course will develop your existing knowledge of Sport and give you the skills to take the first steps to a career in the sports industry. Your enthusiasm for Sport and physical activity will be enhanced by the practical elements of the course while theory units will give you important underpinning knowledge for a successful career. In addition, you will be able to use your passion and talent in Football to complement your academic skills.

This course has a blend of practical and theory elements with a focus on Sports Coaching & Activity Leadership. During the course you will study a range of units including Physical Activity, Health & Wellbeing, Assisting Sports Coaching, Leading Sport & Physical Activity and Customer Service in Sport & Physical Activity.

Key features of the course include:

  • Over 4 hours of Football training each week with experienced coaches including former professional players
  • Opportunity to represent the College Men’s or Women’s Football teams in AoC Category 2 and 3 league and cup competitions
  • Wearing Sports Studies kit each day in College
  • Work experience opportunities throughout the course
  • Opportunity to improve on English and Maths grades at GCSE

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed mainly by coursework. This will include regular practical assessment opportunities as well as a mixture of presentations, reports, group discussions, timed assessments and other written and in-class assessments.

There are also two formal examinations set by the exam board. Both exams are taken in January of that academic year and May where applicable.

What do I need?

You will need to have achieved at least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including English and Maths.

You will be invited to a Trial Day where our coaches will advise on suitability based on Football ability.

Where can it take me?

College Progression – you could progress to a Level 3 vocational course, including Football Academy, Sport & Physical Activity and Outdoor Adventure. An Apprenticeship could also be considered.

Careers - You could consider a junior role in the Sport & Leisure industries, including Assistant Sports Coach, Assistant Activity Leader, Community Sport & Health Officer, Fitness Instructor, Leisure Attendant, Professional Player or Youth Worker.

  • Halesowen College’s Men’s A-Team finished both 16/17 and 17/18 seasons as League Champions
