BTEC Level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science (100 credits)

This qualification is only offered as part of the Level 4 Healthcare Science Associate Apprenticeship

Length of Course: 2 Years

Campus Location: Coombs Wood and in tghe workplace

This credit based professional qualification comprises 100 credits; 37 coming from the compulsory modules and 63 credits from a very wide choice of optional modules. The choice of optional modules will be determined by the job role being undertaken by the apprentice.

  • Optional Modules:

    The Level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science can accommodate specialisms in a very wide range of healthcare functions, which will fall into one of the following four pathways:

    • Life Sciences
    • Physiological Sciences
    • Clinical Bioinformatics
    • Physical Sciences and Biomedical Engineering
    • Job roles will determine the optional modules chosen within one of the pathways

    How will I be assessed?

    You will engage in a range of learning and assessment activities and be encouraged to become effective and independent in researching and presenting work.

    Assessment is through both practical and theoretical assignment activities, both in College and in the workplace.

    All assignment work is both assessed and quality assured within College, as well as being subject to quality assurance sampling by the Awarding Body.

    What do I need?

    English and Maths GCSE grades C/4 or above

    A related Level 3 qualification.

    Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector.

    Delivery:

  • Part Time course
  • This apprenticeship is suitable for both suitably qualified new entrants to the NHS and those already employed.
  • Students attend College one day every 2 weeks during term time to undertake the compulsory modules and knowledge components of optional modules. Occupational competence is taught and assessed in the workplace. Within College they participate in a range of activities including lectures, workshops, practical activities, tutorials and presentations.
  • Students allocated a Personal Tutor to support them in the transition to studying on a higher education programme, and also to give advice and guidance.
  • Students are encouraged to use a wide range of resources, including books and on line journals from the Learning Resource Centre on Campus, as well as on line learning materials.
