Media Studies A Level

Are you interested in how your opinions about the world are shaped and influenced by the media products you consume? Have you ever considered how those products are put together, by whom and for whom? Studying Media offers you the chance to explore and analyse a wide range of media texts to identify the messages and values they contain, as well as giving you the opportunity to produce your own media products.

During the course, you will learn practical skills including camera and editing for moving image, and print based desktop publishing. You will also develop your analytical skills and knowledge of media forms, industries and audiences. Topics such as Television in the Global Age and Media in the Online Age, ensures that the course content addresses contemporary issues

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed through a combination of examinations and coursework.

What do I need?

You will need GCSEs with 2 grade 6s and 3 grade 5s including English Language. Retaking GCSE Maths as part of your programme is required if you do not have grade 4.

Where can it take me?

You can progress to an exciting range of higher level courses, including the HND in Creative Media Production or HNC Graphics. You could also consider a degree in a related subject, such as Media, Communications or Marketing.

Media A Level combines well with Art, English, Graphic Communication, History, Photography, Politics and Sociology.
