Science: Forensic and Criminal Investigation - Level 3 - Year 1

Forensic Science is simply the application of science to the law. This course aims to develop an appreciation of the competencies, skills and knowledge required for university and employment in Science based careers. This is a 2 year course and is equivalent to 3 A levels.

You will develop scientific analytical thinking skills through the use of biological, chemical and physical evidence. You will develop skills to help you remain impartial, develop a chronology and provide scientific justification for analysis and you will present facts in a non-biased manner through detailed investigations.

How will I be assessed?

Written examinations, externally marked assessments and internally marked coursework tasks

What do I need?

You will need to have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 and above, including English, Maths and Science.

Where can it take me?

  • College Progression – you can progress to an exciting range of higher level courses, including Applied Biology or Applied Chemistry HNC/D and Policing HND.
  • University – related degrees including Forensic Science, Criminology, Psychology with Criminology & Criminal Justice and Forensic and Applied Biology.

Additional information

During the course you will be required to undertake 2 weeks of work experience (1 week per academic year) in a Science based field.
