Sport and Physical Activity- Level 3 Certificate - Year 1

This course will enhance your knowledge and increase your understanding of the factors that affect performance and participation in Sport. It will give you the skills and knowledge required for higher education or the world of work.

This practical course offers you the opportunity to study Sport alongside A Level subjects and is designed to cover a wide range of sport related units, linked to a range of sporting areas. You will get to experience practical sport, sports coaching, sports development, sports psychology and all aspects of sport that are used at both grass roots and elite level.

  • How will I be assessed?

    The course is assessed mainly by coursework. This will include regular practical assessment opportunities as well as a mixture of presentations, reports, group discussions, timed assessments and other written and in-class assessments.

    There are also formal examinations taken in January and May where applicable.

    What do I need?

    You will need to achieve at least 5 GCSEs at Grade 5 and above, including English Language or Literature.

    A level 2 Vocational qualification in Science at Distinction or Merit level may be considered.

    • Careers - This course is ideal if you are interested in a career as a Sport Leader, Fitness Instructor, Sports Coach, PE Teacher, Activity Organiser, Recreation Assistant, Sports Administrator, Youth Worker, Sports Official, Professional Player and Centre Manager

    • Use of College facilities such as fitness suite, sports hall, all-weather pitch, outdoor gym, on-site obstacle course

    • 30 hours of work experience in a relevant career setting
    • There is a fee that contributes towards the kit costs. Financial support is available to eligible learners

    This course should be combined with A Levels

    Good combinations include Biology and Psychology
