Spanish A Level
About this course
Did you know that by 2050 the number of Spanish speakers is expected to reach 530 million worldwide?
With increased globalisation and the opportunities offered by email and video-conferencing, a modern foreign language is an enormous asset in many spheres of life and work.
The course has a four part structure and involves the development of four aspects of language. It will enhance your understanding of Europe and its cultural differences.
During the course you will learn through a variety of exercises to read, listen to and understand texts from a variety of media sources.
You will also present information, opinions and arguments either orally or on paper.
The first term includes a diagnostic and bridging course to ensure you have the necessary basic knowledge and skills to achieve your full potential in Spanish.

- Literary texts and films
How will I be assessed?
Assessments are in listening, reading, writing and speaking.
- Paper 1 - Listening, reading and writing assessment (2 hours 30 minutes)
- Paper 2 - Writing assessment (2 hours)
- Paper 3 - Speaking (28 minutes, including 5 minutes preparation)
What do I need?
You will need to achieve at least 5 GCSEs with 2 at Grade B/6 and 3 at Grade C/3.
Additional Requirements: Grade 5 in English and Grade B/6 in Spanish

The languages programme at Halesowen College is about much more than classroom based activities.
The range of extra-curricular events, such as trips to European cities, university language days, masterclasses and a Languages Film Club will enable you to practice your language skills and develop a deeper understanding of the culture and society of the relevant country.
You can combine Spanish with most other subjects.
