About this course

This course will introduce you to basic theory and practical aspects.

As well as learning about the principles of animal husbandry and their welfare, you will gain the knowledge and experience of completing animal health checks, maintaining animal accommodation and understanding the basics of nutrition.

This will be the ideal starting point for a career in animal care.

Assessment will be by assignment-based coursework and practical work.

Literacy and numeracy test plus satisfactory interview.

Additional Information

This is a one year course that involves study in College combined with an animal-based work placement and you will need to find an appropriate placement for one day a week.

There are a number of practical assessments within this course so you need to be willing to handle a large variety of different animal species and complete routine maintenance tasks involved with working in the Animal Unit.
