Graphic Communication is communication in its purest form. The designer has a responsibility to make information easily available and understandable through skill, knowledge and wit. Good visual communication is at the heart of a civilised society. During the 2 year course you will gain the necessary skills and understanding to create great design.
You will cover disciplines such as typography, digital design, photography, traditional illustration and animation. You will discover where your particular talents lie when communicating visually, then work towards a specialism with one to one expert guidance. At the end of the two years you will have created a body of work that reflects your particular skills in the field of Graphic Communication.
The first year is assessed internally resulting in a formative grade. The second year is assessed internally and moderated by AQA and has 2 components, the Personal Investigation and the externally set assignment. The grade for these units makes up your A Level grade.
You will need to achieve at least 5 GCSEs – 2 at Grade 6 and 3 at Grade 5 including an Art & Design subject.
A Level 2 Vocational qualification in Art & Design or a strong portfolio may also be considered.
This course often involves taking photographs, many as homework and so access to a camera would be useful.
