About this course

By 2020, all new entrants to the police force must be qualified to degree level. The new BTEC Higher Nationals in Policing are aimed at students who want to continue their education through applied learning and/or who want to study locally.

What will I learn?

This course is delivered over a period of two years during which you will study 16 units in total.

How will I be assessed?

This course consists of a range of assessment methods including essays, reports, presentations, presented posters and research projects.

What do I need?

  • A BTEC Level 3 qualification (48 UCAS Points); or
  • 2 or more A Levels; or
  • An Access to Higher Education Certificate

This profile should be supported by GCSE grades A* to C (or 4) in Maths and English Language.

Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector.

A DBS is required.

Where can it take me?

The new BTEC Higher Nationals in Policing should enable qualification holders to top up to a BA Honours Degree in Policing or related subject area, or enter employment as a Special Constable, Police Volunteer or Police Staff (civilian roles.)
