GCSE Maths

Many adults looking to progress, academically or professionally, are now required to have a Level 2/GCSE qualification in maths. To pass this qualification learners are required to attain a Grade 4 or above, therefore meeting the minimum required standard for employability.

Course content
The course will follow the Pearson (Edexcel) specification for Foundation GCSE Mathematics (5-1).
The course will be taught in a single session per week. Classes will take place in the evening.
Regular assessments will take place to help you track your progress.
The course will be assessed via examinations in Summer 2027. This comprises of three papers, each 90 minutes long – Paper 1 which is a non-calculator assessment; and Paper 2 and 3 in which are calculator papers.
Examinations will take place at college and cannot be moved as they are national examinations. All examinations are compulsory and the dates are set at the beginning of the course.
You must hold a GCSE Maths qualification at Grade D/3, or a recent Functional Skills Maths qualification at Level 1.
Other applications will be considered on an individual basis following an initial skills assessment.
Suitability for this course will be assessed via an initial skills assessment.
Dependent on this assessment it may be decided that the GCSE course is not suitable, in which case an alternative course will be offered where possible.
The initial skills assessment is taken prior to the start of the course and takes about 1 hour. Dates will be offered after application.
You must be 19+ to apply for this course.

You will need to bring a pen, pencil and paper/notebook to each lesson. 

All other equipment will be provided but you may wish to purchase: 

  • Purchase a calculator (Casio fx-85GT CW is advised)
