This qualification provides learners with an understanding of the knowledge needed when working directly with children and young people in a school or college environment. It will enable learners to gain an understanding of elements including children and young people’s development, safeguarding their welfare, and communication and professional relationships.
During the course you will build a portfolio of evidence and be visited at your placement regularly by a qualified, experienced assessor. You need to show competence in both skills and knowledge and need to be working or be on a practical placement during the taught programme of study in a learning environment (school or college) and undertake 300 hours of placement.
There are 11 units within this course which include safeguarding, child development, supporting children in maths, English and ICT lessons as well as AFL.
The majority of the course is made up of independent study with assignments being accessed online.
All evidence generated by yourself will be assessed against the standards expected of a Level 3 learner for each learning outcome.
You must be successful in all components to gain the qualification
Completion of level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or currently working as a teaching assistant.
Maths and English at GCSE C or above or equivalent such as Functional Skills level 2
You need to have secured a placement in a school of your choice to carry out your placement for 12 hours a week. This must be shown at an interview. During your placement you must be supporting children in maths, English and ICT within the learning environment as well as having responsibility in supporting children to review their learning and achievements and be able to work with the teacher to review the assessment process
As the course is delivered online and monthly, you must be self motivated, excellent time management skills and able to study independently.
A clear enhanced DBS check
Level 3 criteria requires you to analyse, draw conclusions, interpret or justify, which are all principles of higher level skills. This means that evidence provided for your portfolio will also demonstrate development and use of these skills.
A pen, paper, lever arch folder and enthusiasm! The access to a laptop would be benefical
