Musical Theatre is a demanding and popular discipline in the Performing Arts industry, and this course aims to train you to improve your technique and understanding of the three fundamental disciplines of acting, singing and dancing.

Focusing on each skill individually you will take classes in singing, voice and acting technique, and jazz, ballet and commercial dance styles during the course. As well as learning professional repertoire.

This will enable you to master your talents through rehearsal, performance and coursework, integrating your skills and increasing your understanding of many musical roles.

You will experience a range of musical repertoire, and learn about characterisation through group and solo performance work, combining the three skills of Musical Theatre.

Publicly assessed performance work will include auditions, showcases and full-scale musical productions, preparing you for a career in the Musical Theatre industry.

Participation in productions will require rehearsals and performances outside normal College hours.

You will need to have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 and above, including English. Retaking GCSE Maths as part of your programme is required if you do not have Grade 4. You will be invited to attend an audition where you will need to prepare one Musical Theatre song to showcase your vocal skills.

The course is assessed through a combination of performance, theory and coursework. Large and small scale performances will be assessed through both rehearsal observation and final performance effectiveness. Coursework is often connected directly to the analysis, and research completed as part of the Performance and Production Process.

You can progress to a range of higher level and professional qualifications. This course is ideal if you are interested in a career as a Theatre Performer, Director or Entertainer, other careers in Teaching and Public Relations could also be considered.
