This exciting and career-focused course is your first step toward the police, fire and rescue, armed forces, or other essential public services. Gain the knowledge, fitness, and teamwork skills needed to stand out.

Qualification Overview

Includes 4 mandatory units and 4–7 optional specialist units

Mandatory units

  • The Role and Work of the Public Services
  • Working Skills in the Public Services Sector
  • Citizenship, Society and the Public Services
  • Crime and its Effects on Society and Individuals

 

Optional Specialist Units

All internally assessed. Sample options include:

  • Health, Fitness and Lifestyle for the Public Services
  • Employment in the Public Services
  • Adventurous Activities (or) Multi-day Expedition Experience
  • Community and Cultural Awareness
  • Volunteering for the Public Services
  • Land Navigation by Map and Compass
  • Preparing to Respond to Emergency Incidents
  • Law and its Impact on the Individual

You will need to have achieved at least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 and above, including English, and Math’s. It is a requirement, however, that you retake GCSE English and Math’s as part of your programme, if you do not have Grade 4. This will ensure you can progress to a Level 3 course or apprenticeship and will improve your future employment prospects.

Mix of external exams and internally assessed coursework.
