The Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training is informed by research and current developments in the discipline and by feedback from students, external examiners and employers.  Modules do therefore change periodically in the interests of keeping the course relevant and reflecting best practice.  The most up to date information will be available to you once you have accepted a place and registered for your course.  If there are insufficient numbers of students interested in an optional module, this may not be offered, but we will advise you as soon as possible and help you choose an alternative.

Students attend College one evening per week, with tutorials once a week to monitor progress. Online resources support the course content, available at The Hive, and the College’s online learning platform.

This course provides opportunities to test your understanding and learning informally through the completion of practice or ‘formative’ assignments. Formative assessments do not carry a grade contributing to the final overall grade for the module. Formative assessments may include peer-assessment and self-assessment as well as tutor-assessments.  Summative assessments also have a formative function through the feedback you receive.

A typical formal assessment pattern for each year of the course is:

Year 1
  • 1 Microteach,
  • 1 Lesson Plan and Commentary
  • 2 Presentations
  • 1 Written reflection
  • 1 Discussion board
  • 1 Podcast/blog/vlog
  • 1 Action plan
  • 2 Portfolio audits
  • 1 completed portfolio with professional discussion and target setting
Year 2
  • 2 Professional Discussion
  • 2 Presentations
  • 2 Written Reports
  • 2 Portfolio audits
  • 1 Demonstration
  • 1 Action Plan
  • 1 completed portfolio with viva voce and target setting

All students are required to complete a minimum of 150 hours of teaching during the DiT course.

Students receive feedback on practice assessments and on formal assessments undertaken by coursework.  Feedback on examination performance is available upon request from the Course Leader.  Feedback is intended to support learning, and students are encouraged to discuss it with personal academic tutors and module tutors as appropriate.

We aim to provide students with feedback on formal course work assessments within 20 working days of hand-in.
