The VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Beauty Therapy is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills through the following units; improving the appearance of the hands and feet with basic manicure and pedicure services, providing relaxing head massage treatments, cleansing, toning and moisturising and giving advice on skin care, and basic day make-up application.
To further enhance your skills you will also cover artistic and creative elements on your course such as nail art, themed face painting and photographic make-up. To underpin this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety and you will also develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the skills required to support you in the beauty therapy industry such as salon reception duties and working with others. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in beauty therapy and will provide you with the foundation for further learning. It will also enable you to perform your own basic services and to assist others in the salon.

Learners will also gain an additional qualification in Mental Health to provide learners with an understanding of mental health and wellbeing. Learners will develop an awareness of a range of mental health conditions, the factors affecting mental health and the impact of mental health from a global, individual and workplace perspective.
You will need a Grade 2 in Maths and English Language due to the examined units within this course. Support for alternative provision will be given during advice and guidance if you do not meet this requirement.
You will continue to study English and Maths at an appropriate level as part of your curriculum timetable.
This qualification is assessed through practical assessments on clients. There are written assignments and exams covering theoretical knowledge. A portfolio of evidence using ManageAssess will showcase completed work, your different styles and peer feedback. We always encourage our learners to work on external clients to gain realistic employability skills, but for this course it is not mandated.
You can progress to a Level 2 vocational course in Beauty Therapy or Hairdressing. An Apprenticeship could also be considered.
You could progress to a junior position in the Beauty or Hairdressing industries in a salon, retail setting or self-employment, but further training would be advisable.
All timetables will incorporate evening classes running until approximately 8pm to ensure learners are work-ready and prepared for industry expectations.
