Graphic Design represents communication in its purest form. The designer has a responsibility to make information easily available and understandable through skill, knowledge and wit. Good visual communication is at the heart of a civilised society. During the course, you will gain the necessary skills and understanding to create great design. By studying the work of great designers, and the art movements they are influenced by, you will gain the knowledge to make your work stronger.

You will cover disciplines such as typography, digital design, photography, traditional illustration and animation. You will discover where your particular talents lie when communicating visually, then work towards a specialism with one to one expert guidance during the second year. At the end of the two years you will have created a body of work that reflects your particular skills in the field of Graphics.

You will need GCSEs with 2 grade 6s and 3 grade 5s including English Language and an Art and Design subject. A Level 2 Art qualification and portfolio may also be considered. Retaking GCSE Maths as part of your programme is required if you do not have grade 4s.

The first year is assessed internally resulting in a formative grade. The second year is assessed internally and moderated by AQA and has 2 components; the Personal Investigation and the externally set assignment. The grade for these units makes up your A Level grade.

You can progress to an exciting range of higher level courses including Graphics HNC, or you could consider a Creative Apprenticeship. Alternatively, a related degree in Graphic Design, Illustration or Animation is an option.

Graphic Communication A Level combines well with English, Film Studies, Media Studies, and Photography.

This course is ideal if you have an interest in a career as a Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Packaging Designer, Animator, Character Designer, Interior Designer or Art Director.
