Duration: 1 year

This course develops skills and knowledge in various techniques linked to the Fashion industry. It offers a wide variety of skills such as digital design, dress making, printing alongside drawing, painting and textiles. The work completed will be strongly supported by an understanding of historical and contemporary fashion contextual studies, enabling you to appreciate how fashion has progressed through time, and offering a broad range of inspirational sources to draw from in your own work.

You will research industry standard project briefs to develop and extend your learning. The College’s Annual Fashion Show is a celebration of the skills and knowledge that you have gained.

To further enhance your employability skills there will be opportunities for you to complete a one week work placement. This compulsory aspect of the course gives you the chance to apply the knowledge gained in class to the real world of work.

You will need to have achieved at least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 and above, including English, Maths and an Art-based subject. It is a requirement, however, that you retake GCSE English and Maths as part of your programme, if you do not have Grade 4. This will ensure you can progress to a Level 3 course or apprenticeship, and will improve your future employment prospects.

You will also need to provide a portfolio of work that demonstrates passion, commitment and energy.

Your coursework will be continually assessed by completing a series of projects and exhibiting your work.

You can progress to a Level 3 vocational course, including Fashion for Design & Retail and Art & Design.

This course could put you on the path to a career as a Stylist, Design Assistant, Store Manager, Retail Manager, Junior Buyer and Merchandiser.
