Healthcare Science Assistants contribute to safe patient care across all care pathways from conception to end of life in job roles within hospitals, general practice and other settings in the healthcare sector and across all areas of healthcare science.

Course content

On completion, you would gain knowledge and skills in the following areas:

Personal and Professional Development
Health, Safety and Security
Quality
Clinical Care
Leadership
Research and Innovation

As part of the apprenticeship, you would also gain a qualification in the Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Science.

What do I need?

Ideally have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including Maths and English

Applicants that do not have a C/4 in English or Maths will be required to take a re-sit during the apprenticeship

Applicants will be required to apply for live vacancies through the NHS Jobs website. The apprenticeship course cannot begin until you have secured employment.

How will I be assessed?

The apprenticeship is assessed through an end-point assessment, which includes a practical observation and professional discussion.

Additional information

An apprenticeship is a real job, with hands-on experience, a salary and the chance to train while you work. You would be treated just like all the other employees, with a contract of employment, holiday leave and employee benefits. You would receive support from a dedicated assessor who regularly visits apprentices in the workplace.
