The Foundation Diploma in Music Production & Technology is structured around providing industry experience through live briefs. These are based across disciplines such as events, studio practice and DAW computer-based production. All practical work is backed with a solid core of theoretical knowledge based in Computing, Music, Physics and Maths Principles.
During the course there are multiple live events where you will get the opportunity to be an engineer and technician, working as part of a large production team to execute high level outcomes for real life clients. As well as this,the course explores traditional computer music production,sound design and non-linear music for gaming. All of this is underpinned with studio practice, where using our studios to produce band, vocal, voice, foley and sound bank recordings will leave you with a comprehensive working knowledge of a professional studio.
Throughout the year, guest speakers and events such as Industry Week will allow you to add further value to your training and education in the Music sector, creating valuable networks and links.
You will need to have GCSEs with 2 grade 6s and 3 grade 5s including English Language. Retaking GCSE Maths as as part of your programme is required if you do not have grade 4.
The course is entirely coursework assessed.
Either straight into employment of Higher Education, most students progress to a range of BSc, BA and BEng course at HE. Some of the potential job paths include Games Audio, Sound Design, DSP Engineer, Electronic Engineering, Product Design, Software Engineering, Events technician, live sound, Stage Rigging, Theatre, Performing Arts Technician, teaching and many more.
Good combinations could include most Humanities subjects and Computer Science.
Headphones, a good size hard drive (1tb), black clothing will be required for events – official crew shirts are available upon commencing the course.
