The Cambridge Advanced National in Mental Health: Individuals & Society is a Level 3 qualification for students who are interested in exploring mental health and wellbeing in real-world contexts. The course develops the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to progress to higher education or employment within the health and social care sector.

Studying this course will enable you to understand mental health holistically, apply theory to practice, and develop key skills for future careers in psychology, counselling, health promotion and wellbeing support.

You will study the factors that influence mental health and wellbeing across the life span and learn how to support individuals and communities to achieve positive mental health outcomes. The qualification also explores how workplaces, communities and society as a whole can impact wellbeing — and what can be done to make a difference.

You will need at least 5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above, including English Language.
This qualification is designed to be studied alongside two A Levels. Ideal combinations include Psychology, Sociology, Criminology or English.

Assessment is a combination of externally marked exams and internally assessed practical assignments, moderated by Cambridge OCR. Each unit assesses both your understanding and your ability to apply knowledge to real-life situations.

This course provides an excellent foundation for higher education or careers related to mental health, wellbeing and social care. Possible university pathways include:

  • BSc (Hons) Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • BA (Hons) Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • BSc (Hons) Health and Wellbeing
  • BSc (Hons) Health Studies
  • BSc (Hons) Mental Health and Wellbeing Coaching

You can also progress into related roles in health and social care, education, community work or wellbeing services.

As this is a new course, you may have already applied for other A Levels. If you would like to switch to the Mental Health AAQ, please check the entry requirements and then contact our Admissions Team on 0121 602 7607 or admissions@halesowen.ac.uk
