This apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for anyone looking to start a career in IT support, networking or digital infrastructure. Apprentices gain practical, hands-on experience maintaining systems, supporting users and resolving technical issues, preparing them for progression into Level 3 apprenticeships or entry-level digital roles.

Course content

Digital systems, hardware and network fundamentals
Installing and maintaining devices, software and infrastructure
Fault diagnosis and troubleshooting techniques
Basic cyber security practices and safe working
Supporting users and working within IT environments
Understanding emerging technologies and digital systems

What do I need?

No prior IT qualification is required.
Minimum of GCSE English and Maths at Grade 3/D (or equivalent) is recommended.
Suitable for individuals starting a career in IT, digital support, networking or infrastructure.
Employers must be able to provide supervised opportunities to undertake practical IT support, maintenance and troubleshooting activities.

You must be employed in a relevant role, or have an employer lined up to begin your apprenticeship.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is carried out throughout the apprenticeship through a combination of workplace observations, practical activities, professional discussions and the completion of a portfolio of evidence. Apprentices will demonstrate their ability to install, maintain and support digital systems, networks and infrastructure while applying troubleshooting and cyber security principles in a real working environment.

Towards the end of the programme, apprentices will complete the required End-Point Assessment (EPA), which is independently assessed and confirms that the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the standard have been achieved.
