Turn your creativity into a career in film, TV, theatre, fashion and special effects.

If you love make-up artistry, character transformation, prosthetics, fashion styling or creating dramatic looks for stage and screen, this course is designed for you. The VTCT Skills Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up develops the advanced practical and creative skills needed to work within the exciting media and entertainment industries.

Throughout the course, you will build industry-level skills in:

  • Media, fantasy and photographic make-up
  • Fashion and editorial styling
  • Special effects (SFX) make-up
  • Prosthetic application
  • Airbrush make-up techniques
  • Character transformation
  • Casualty and ageing effects
  • Bald caps and postiche work
  • Hair styling for performers and media productions

 

You will also develop professional skills including client care, portfolio building, teamwork, communication and working to industry briefs.

  • A relevant Level 2 qualification in Hair & Media Make-Up (progression learners within Halesowen College)
  • GCSE English, Maths and preferably Art at Grade 4 or above
  • A passion for creativity and practical work

Assessment is practical and portfolio-based and may include:

  • Practical observations
  • Online and written assessments
  • Assignments and projects
  • Mood boards and creative planning
  • Portfolio development
  • Industry-style tasks and competitions

 

This course is designed to reflect real working practices within the creative industries.

After completing this qualification, you could progress onto:

  • Level 4 specialist make-up qualifications
  • Higher education or university courses
  • Employment within theatre, TV, film or fashion
  • Freelance or self-employed opportunities
