This course is designed for students wishing to study Mathematics at university, or to study Science or Engineering at any of the universities where they recommend Further Mathematics to complement other A Levels taken. A Level Further Mathematics is studied alongside A Level Mathematics with external exams at the end of the 2 years of study. This course enables the students to study four A Levels overall if they choose to.
Pure Maths – Algebra, Co-ordinate Geometry, Proof, Polynomials, Calculus, Trigonometry, Exponentials, Logarithms, Binomial Theorem, Algebra and Functions, Further Calculus, Further Trigonometry, Parametric Equations, Numerical Methods, Complex Numbers, Polar Coordinates, Hyperbolics, Matrices, Complex Roots of Polynomials, Differential Equations, Vectors, DeMoivres Theorem and more complex Calculus.
Decision and Statistics – Probability, Statistical Diagrams, Standard Deviation, Binomial Distribution, Hypothesis Testing, Conditional Probability, Normal Distribution, Further Hypothesis Testing, Discrete and Continuous Random Variables, Chi-Squared distribution, Poisson Distribution, Errors and Hypothesis Testing including T-tests, Network Flows, Group Theory, Linear Programming & Simplex Method, Game Theory, Graph Theory and Critical Path Analysis.
The content is delivered over the duration of the course ensuring where content extends on A level Mathematics knowledge that it has been covered in A level Mathematics first.
A grade 7 in maths is needed for Further Maths. If running as a fourth A Level then we need to ensure grade profile is appropriate for 4th A Level.
The course is assessed through exams at the end of the 2 years. You will be assessed with rigorous internal exams throughout the course that will build you up until the final exams.
You can progress to an exciting range of higher level courses, including Teaching and HNC/Ds in Applied Biology, Applied Chemistry, Computing and Graphics, Web Design or Multi Media. Alternatively, you could study for a degree in a related subject, such as Mathematics, Science, Medicine, Computing & Engineering, Physics, Engineering or Philosophy.
This course is also ideal if you are interested in a career in Science, Engineering, Finance, Accountancy, Medicine, Teaching or IT.
Further Mathematics A Level combines well with Business, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Geography, Psychology and Physics.
