A Level and Vocational Combined. This qualification will run alongside two other A Levels of your choice.

This course is a great option if you would like to study a Science subject at a higher level but don’t want to pick a single Science A Level, or feel that a course with some coursework assessment will allow you to achieve a better outcome.

If you enjoy learning about genetics, the fundamentals of human biology and are ambitious to learn more about biomedical techniques and their application in health careers, then you will enjoy this Human Biology course.

The course encompasses practicals that allow you to learn in the context of realistic workplace situations, as well as gaining relevant scientific knowledge, laboratory analytical skills and develop numerous transferable skills which will enable you to progress into any career.

Valued by employers and universities, the skills gained on this vocational qualification offer a clear route into employment or higher education.

You will need to have GCSEs with 2 grade 6s and 2 grade 5s including English Language and Maths, you will also need at least a grade 4 in Science.

The course is assessed by a combination of external exams and assessed coursework. During Year 1, you will take an external exam; the fundamentals of human biology and a coursework unit genetics and biomedical techniques. In Year 2 there is an external exam in Health and Disease as well as 2 optional units.

You can progress to an exciting range of higher level courses, including Applied Biology HNC/D. Other options include a related degree in subjects such as Biological Sciences, Life Science and Human Biology.

This course is ideal if you are interested in a career in Nursing, Teaching, Pharmaceutical Science, Forensics, Biomedical Sciences, Engineering, Paramedical Science, Physiotherapy, Optometry and Psychology.

An apprenticeship could also be considered.

This course can only be combined with 2 other A Levels

Good combinations could include Chemistry, Geology, Geography, Sociology, Psychology and Environmental Science. Unfortunately, it cannot be done alongside A Level Biology.
