The T Level in Science is a two-year, Level 3 qualification designed to give you both the knowledge and practical skills needed for a career in the science sector.

You’ll start by building a strong foundation in core scientific knowledge, including topics such as biology, chemistry and applied science. This includes areas like cells, genetics, microbiology, chemical reactions, and analytical techniques, alongside an understanding of how science is used in real-world contexts.

Alongside this, you’ll develop essential industry skills such as scientific methodology, using laboratory equipment, managing data, and working safely and ethically within a scientific environment.

You’ll also gain an understanding of how the science sector operates, including health and safety, quality standards, and professional working practices.

As part of the course, you’ll choose a specialist pathway to focus your learning; we will be offering the:

  • Laboratory Sciences occupational specialism.

In addition, you’ll complete an industry placement, giving you valuable real-world experience and helping you develop the skills employers are looking for.

GCSE Science Grade 5 and above, GCSE English Language Grade 4 and above, GCSE Maths Grade 4 and above alongside two other GCSE subjects that are of Grade 4 and above.

  • Assessment on the Pearson T Level in Science is designed to test both your scientific knowledge and your ability to apply it in real-world situations.
  • The qualification is made up of two main assessed components:
  • Core component – This is assessed through two written exams and an employer-set project. The exams assess your understanding of key scientific principles, concepts and theories. The employer-set project allows you to apply your knowledge to a realistic workplace scenario, demonstrating problem-solving, research and practical skills.
  • Occupational specialism – This is assessed through practical assignments linked to your chosen pathway (such as Laboratory Sciences) You’ll complete a series of tasks that reflect real industry practices and demonstrate your technical skills.
  • You’ll also complete a substantial industry placement, where your performance is monitored to ensure you can apply your learning effectively in a professional environment.

You could progress directly into employment in roles such as:

  • Laboratory technician
  • Research assistant
  • Food or pharmaceutical technician
  • Quality control or testing technician

Alternatively, many students choose to continue their studies. This course is equivalent to A Levels and is recognised by universities, so you could move on to:

  • A science-related degree (e.g. Biomedical Science, Healthcare Science, Forensic Science)
  • Higher apprenticeships or degree apprenticeships in the science sector
  • Learners need to be sure of career destination as chosen T Level pathway is very specific.
  • Meet fitness to study requirements.
  • Meet mandatory student codes of conduct.
