This qualification is designed for those who want to work as a carpenter or joiner in the construction sector. It provides learners with the opportunity to develop and practise the skills needed for employment and/or career progression.

The course covers:

Producing basic woodworking joints
Safely using hand and power tools
Understanding building construction and communication

Course content

Learners must complete all five mandatory units:

Principles of building construction, information and communication
Maintain and use carpentry and joinery hand tools
Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools
Produce woodworking joints
Health, safety and welfare in construction

What do I need?

You should have grade 2 or above in both Maths and English.

How will I be assessed?

Written multiple-choice tests.
Practical assessments covering performance outcomes such as tool use, producing woodworking joints, and safe working practices.

Where can it take me?

Learners can progress into employment in the carpentry/joinery trade or advance to higher qualifications.
